(Janet McEwan/Facebook) - A white truck crashed into the south fuel pump at the Dashwood Chevron in north Qualicum Beach at 9:40 p.m. on Sunday Nov. 3.

A fuel pump at the Dashwood Chevron was knocked completely off its base after a truck crashed into the station at 9:40 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 3.

Const. Doug Pennington from the Central Vancouver Island Traffic Services unit of the RCMP says multiple tickets have been issued to the driver of the white truck.

“A truck was travelling southbound and went off the road and… hit one of the pumps,” said Pennington.

Pennington confirmed that a police services dog was used in the arrest of a 27-year-old man shortly after the incident. Pennington said no one was injured.

Also attending to the scene were BC Ambulance Services, Mainroad Mid-Island Contracting Ltd. and the Dashwood Volunteer Fire Department.

Captain and training officer of the Dashwood Volunteer Fire Department, Jeremy Morton, said their crews were paged in to the scene at 9:45 p.m.

Morton says there was a minor fuel spill that the owner was able to contain quickly.

“The owner of the gas station was just getting ready to close up for the evening, so he was able to hit the emergency shutoffs right away, prevent any further fuel spillage,” said Morton.

Morton says DVFD crews were on scene for about three hours to ensure that everything was safe.

“Just very glad that there was nobody else at the pumps at the time. It could have been a much different call if that had been the case,” said Morton.

An employee at the gas station said two of the four pumps are still operational but it may take between three and four weeks before the other two are replaced.
