Two pedestrians hospitalized after being struck by vehicle in Parksville

Two pedestrians have been hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle in Parksville on the afternoon of March 6.

The two were struck at approximately 3:20 p.m. at the intersection of Moilliet Street North and the Island Highway, according to an Oceanside RCMP news release.

Both pedestrians were transported to hospital by BC Ambulance. One person remains in hospital in critical but stable condition and the second pedestrian received minor injuries, according to the release.

The driver of the vehicle remained at scene and is cooperating with the investigation. Driver impairment was excluded as a contributing factor to the collision.

The roadway was partially closed at the time to permit a scene analysis and was reopened later in the evening.

The cause and contributing factors of the crash are being investigated by Oceanside RCMP Municipal Traffic Unit with assistance from Oceanside RCMP General Investigation Section and the RCMP Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (CARS).

Investigators are asking that if anyone witnessed the collision or has dash cam video, to contact the Oceanside RCMP at 250-248-6111 quoting file number 2023-2175.
