UPDATE: One person taken for treatment after fire guts Parksville home

Investigators still checking on cause of blaze

A Wednesday fire has gutted a home near the corner of Lee Avenue and Craig Street in Parksville.

The Parksville Fire Department were called to the burning house at 5:32 p.m. and remained on scene until about 8 p.m. according to Assistant Fire Chief Steven Liedl.

“The crews, they arrived and were able to get a quick knockdown and gain control of the fire in short order,” said Liedl.

The fire was contained to the corner home, but Liedl says the damage was extensive. The entire inside of the house appears to be gutted from the fire.

People who lived in the house were home at the time of the fire. One person was taken to Oceanside Health Centre for smoke inhalation. No one else was reported to be injured.

There is no word yet as to what sparked the blaze.

“At this time, the cause is unknown but our department we are investigating,” said Liedl.

The Parksville Fire Department had assistance from BC Ambulance, the RCMP and Emergency Support Services.
