Walkey is new board chair

Current Qualicum Beach Chamber of Commerce chair Moira Hauk moving to Cowichan Valley for new job

The Qualicum Beach Chamber of Commerce has a new volunteer board chair.

Moira Hauk announced at the March 25 membership meeting that she has accepted a position with Coastal Community Credit Union in the Cowichan Valley and is stepping down from her position as chair of the local chamber.  Stepping up to take her place is Paul Walkey, owner of Qualicum Beach Funeral Centre.

According to the chamber, in her new job, Hauk will have oversight of the Chemainus branch and will be opening the Credit Union's new Duncan location and she will be relocating to the Cowichan Valley.

Walkey comes to the chair's position with a depth of experience in chambers of commerce in Saskatchewan and Ontario and has agreed to take the helm until the chamber AGM in November, according to a news release issued by the chamber.

"I love the community work that chambers do and I appreciate that they assist small businesses in towns all over Canada," said Walkey. "I am looking forward to working with an excellent board and staff to continue to be the voice of business in Qualicum Beach."

At the March 25 meeting, Hauk expressed her sadness at leaving an appointment that allowed her to be closely involved with the Qualicum Beach business community but also voiced excitement at the opportunity she was beginning.

Said Rusty Joerin, chamber treasurer and owner of Woodsgift Enterprises: "Moira, we will miss you and your generous leadership, but are happy to see the guidance of the chamber of commerce continue in the good hands of Paul Walkey."
