June 23, 1925 - March 9, 2019
Abe Dueck was born in Ebenfeld, Crimea in 1925. In 1929, he emigrated to Canada with his parents and sister Elizabeth. They settled in Coaldale, Alberta. His father died a few years later, so Abe became the man of the family. He worked as a teenager on McIntyre Ranch - he always wanted to be a cowboy!

He moved to Sardis, BC where he met Hilda Reimer - he loved to play baseball and she cheered him on! They married in 1947 and spent 65 years together. During that time he worked in a cold storage plant and they lived in an apartment above it. After the 1947 Vedder Canal flood ruined the cold storage plant, they moved to Abbotsford where he was employed as a butcher in a small shop.

He really wanted to work for a chain, so he was approached by Overwaitea and offered the job as meat manager in the Abbotsford store. After 7 years in Fort St. John, Abe was transferred to Parksville where he worked for Overwaitea - he retired on his 60th birthday, after 37 years in the meat business. During his time in Parksville, he was also an alderman and volunteer fireman - 6 years as fire chief. In his retirement years he enjoyed fishing, golfing and woodworking. He was an active member of the Parksville Fellowship Baptist Church.

He is mourned by his daughter Joan(Richard) and son Clifford(Susan), 4 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, and his sister Elizabeth and her family.

A Celebration of his life will be held at 2 pm, Sunday March 31st at the Parksville Baptist Church on Pym Road. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Camp Qwanoes. Abe and his wife were very supportive of this Christian children's camp in Crofton for many years. The family thanks the staff at Eagle Park Care Facility for the excellent care he received.
