Aileen Patricia Wintemute (nee Parsons)
January 26, 1921-December 7, 2015
Aileen was born in Winnipeg, grew up in Vancouver and died peacefully in Little Mountain Manor in Parksville, BC. She was predeceased by her parents, Herbert and Marian and five older siblings and in 2012 by her beloved husband, John (Jack). She is survived by daughter Anne (Vern), sons Phil (Ann) and Drew (Mary), 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Aileen married her sweetheart, Jack, in 1946. After their three children were born in Vancouver, the family moved to Victoria. They both committed wholeheartedly to raising their family, building a cabin at Northwest Bay in Nanoose where they spent their summer holidays. After Jack took early retirement in 1975, they moved to Beachcomber, then Fairwinds and finally to Craig Bay in Parksville. After Jack went into full care in 2007, Aileen moved into independent living at The Gardens in Qualicum Beach in 2011. She loved living there. When she needed more care, she moved to Little Mountain Manor for a very short while.
Mom and Dad enjoyed entertaining, gardening, tennis, golf, swimming, playing bridge and travelled extensively. She was a talented seamstress, knitter, pianist and a voracious reader. She loved people and remembered all their stories. She had a strong faith, a positive attitude, a good sense of humour, a beautiful smile and always had a twinkle in her eye. Mom always said she “had a good life” and was full of gratitude for her family, many friends, and all her caregivers. She wanted to especially thank Dr. Henderson for his compassionate and continued care, IH home care workers, Elder Life caregivers, all the wonderful staff at The Gardens, and the staff at Little Mountain Manor.
At Aileen’s request, a family service and interment with Jack in the
Memorial Garden of her beloved St. Mary’s Anglican Church
in Nanoose Bay was held on Saturday, December 12, 2015.
