Albert Arthur Whibley

Born July 24th 1924 in Redfield, Saskatchewan passed away March 25th, 2011 quietly, surrounded by family at NRGH.

Predeceased by son Dan, sister Irene, twin sister Edna and older brother Ben, he is survived by his sister Winnie, wife Ethel (Godkin), sons Lorne/Roong, Gary /Sally(Lukas, Ian and Marie),Terry and daughter Sheila/Charlie Pickard (Dan/Zenaida, Wayne/Sandy, Logan/Taryn and Garrett/Brittany).

Al enjoyed good health and worked hard all his life. He farmed in Saskatchewan before moving to the Island in 1948 where he was employed at various jobs including working at Comox airport private logging enterprises as well as road building and logging on Queen Charlotte Islands. He started as a Faller with MacMillan Bloedel, Franklin Division in 1961, where he worked until retiring at age 65.

Since moving to Coombs from Ladysmith in 1971, Al was involved in the community in many ways from fighting the RDN with Ercohill Landowner’s Association to falling trees for the Bluegrass/Rodeo grounds with his son, Dan. Al put in many shifts at the Bluegrass, enjoying both the conversations and the music and as a member of the Coombs Old Time Fiddlers. Al will be missed by many relatives and friends.

The family invites you to the Bradley Centre, Shearme Rd. Coombs between 1 and 5 pm Sunday April 3, 2011. Flowers gratefully declined. Please come and share your memories and stories.
