Born in Adorp, Albert lived in Groningen, Netherlands where he worked for the family bakery delivering bread on his bicycle. He participated in national dance competitions and ice skated on canals. In 1955, he immigrated to Canada and lived in places such Winnipeg, Carberry, Kapuskasing and Ottawa finally settling in Oshawa. Albert had many jobs such as a butler in Manitoba, a baker and cook in north Ontario.

In their retirement, they both enjoyed exploring the outdoors with their dog, Shannon, and travelled extensively to New Zealand, Costa Rica and took many cruises.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Stanford Place for their compassionate care of Albert during his time with them. In keeping with Albert's wishes, no services will be held. Those wanting to honour his memory may do so by making a donation in his name to the Alzheimer's Society  of British Columbia, http://alzheimer.ca/en/bc/Get-involved/Ways-to-donate.
