In loving memory ~
Al was born in Regina, Saskatchewan to Alexander Sr., and Isabelle Bovaird. He was reared on a farm in the Bankend and Punnichy districts.
He was predeceased by his younger and only sibling, Jenny Merkel, in 2014. Al is survived by Sylvia, his best friend and dear wife of 67 years; one son, Randy and wife Pam from Oceanside, California and three daughters: Val Mycoeh and husband Bob from Errington, B.C., Colleen Wawrykow and husband Michael from Nanoose Bay, B.C., and Sandra Verley from Surrey, B.C., seven grandchildren and ten great -grandchildren.
Al worked for 15 years as a telegrapher, station agent, terminal operator, and train dispatcher on the CNR Railroad in Saskatchewan and British Columbia and on Southern Pacific Railroad in Southern California. He then worked for 25 years with Canada Post in Parksville and Qualicum Beach, and Central Vancouver Island, B.C., as a Clerk, Assistant Post Master, Post Master and Regional Post Office Manager of 14 Post Offices. Al loved his family and the great outdoors.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
