Alexander David Arthur BURTON

September 29, 2012

Burton

May 5, 1924 - Sept 29, 2012

It is with great sadness we announce David passed quietly away on Sept 29 with family at his bedside, succumbing to injuries he received when struck in a crosswalk.

David was born in Abernathy, Saskatchewan, but soon moved with his parents to BC and grew up farming in the Peace region. In 1943 he enlisted in the RCAF and spent the war as an armourer in fighter-bomber Wing 144, landing in Normandy the week after D-day. After the war, he tried his hand at farming before rejoining the RCAF as an airframe mechanic, later moving back to Vancouver.

In 1975 he married Brynice Agnew, becoming father to Tom (Leilani), Susan (Dick), and Cathy; and later grandfather to Colin (Shirley) and Laura, great grandfather to Ian.

Following the death of his beloved Brynice in 2005, David moved to Qualicum Beach and became an active member of the QB Lawn Bowling club. He especially enjoyed working in the kitchens at both the club and QB Senior’s Center.

David was always active, at age 61 he completed the Vancouver Marathon, and at age 81 & 82 completed the Parksville 10km run. In 2011, David moved into the new Hustwick Place in Parksville, but remained involved in Qualicum Beach.

He will be sorely missed by many friends and acquaintances in both Parksville and Qualicum. His family will miss his desire to make others happy, his zest for living, his infectious sense of humour and his love. Heartfelt thank you to QB Lawn Bowling for their tribute.

No service or flowers by request.
