July 9, 1934 - July 26, 2018
With great sadness we said goodbye to our loving husband and father as he passed away peacefully, his family by his side.

Words can never express the depth of our love, respect, and appreciation to the man who so deeply loved his family. He instilled his love of nature, fishing, and adventure in us all. We were taught how to hammer a good nail, and the importance of a job well done. Alf was a master craftsman at the early age of 15, having been schooled in Denmark as a carpenter and furniture maker. As a man of honour and integrity, he was well respected in personal and business dealings.

With a wonderful sense of humour, a contagious laugh and the world's brightest smile, he warmed the hearts of all who knew him. The Lord has taken him home to live eternally in peace and in His presence. Words can never express how deeply he will be missed each and every day until we are all together again.

Alf is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Margit Nymark Hansen, and their 4 children: Dan (Michele with Ashley and Emily), Sally (Jan with Mackenna and Dakota), Ann (with Colton and Brianna), and Neil (Janette with Shelby, Elka and Nyla). Alf is also survived by his brother Fred and his sister Inga.

Alf is predeceased by his father Knud and mother Karla, and his brother Eric, as well as Dena Gerard and her father George Gerard, Lorraine Hansen, Knud Harrad Nymark and Lilly Nymark.

After arriving from Denmark at the age of 17, Alf spent 9 years in Edmonton, but then settled in Parksville for the past 50 years. In that time, he built hundreds of homes as well as some of the commercial buildings in town.

In 1970, he started the Englishman River Inner Tube Race which was always a fun event. Later on Alf started the quest to save the Parksville Estuary from further development and created the Friends of the Flats group to raise awareness and the funds needed to save this special place. As a result, the Nature Trust of BC was able to purchase the land and preserve this beautiful wetland for future generations to enjoy.

Over the years Alf was also involved with the Danish Canadian Club, Nature Trust of BC, and the Parksville Fish and Game Club.

Private family service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Nature Trust of BC in Alf's name.
