Marie Alice Beatrice Annette Quackenbush passed away in Nanaimo, BC on November 8, 2012 at the age of 98 years. Born in Sherbrooke, QC she moved to Victoria in 1954 where she worked for the Post Office. After her retirement in 1969, she lived in the Qualicum Beach / Parksville area until she moved to Nanaimo in 2003.
Alice was an active community member and volunteered extensively in support of the SOS District 69 programs including Meals on Wheels. In addition, she was a 30 year member of the Arrowsmith Lodge Ladies Auxiliary, a 20 year member of the Qualicum Beach Legion (Branch 76) Ladies Auxiliary and a 20 year member of the Catholic Women’s League at Church of the Ascension.
Alice was predeceased by husbands: Roland Fortin, Carl Schram and Frank Quackenbush, and by her daughter Monique. She is survived by her children: Roger (Raymonde), Adrien (Pierette), son in law Frank (Cheryl), Louis-Paul, Francois; her eleven grandchildren: Christine (Jean-Daniel), Louise (Bruce), Lyne, Richard (Stephanie), Eric (Brigitte), Paula (Kamil), Shawn, Suzanne (Claudio), Daniel (Heidi), Cameron (Sabrina), Tanya; and by her twelve great-grandchildren: Elizabeth, Matthew, Jessy, Laurent, Tessa, Kalen, Preston, Myrka, Brett, Olivia, Luke and Noah.
The family extends its heartfelt thanks to the staff at Nanaimo Seniors Village who cared for Alice in the past seven years.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:15 am Friday December 7, 2012 at Church of the Ascension,
