Amy Elizabeth Kathleen Watts (nee Stuart), known to family and friends as “Betty”, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2011 at Bow View Manor, Calgary, aged 94. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Betty loved visiting with friends and family, and also enjoyed gardening, sewing, and reading. She played a spirited game of Scrabble right up until her death. Born in Stettler, Alberta, Betty graduated from Calgary Normal School and taught all grades in country schools for several years during the Depression. In 1939 she married John Herbert Watts (Jack), RCAF, who predeceased her at the age of 92 in 2002. They enjoyed retirement in Sidney BC for many years. Betty is survived by her sister Babs Ferguson of Vancouver, her brother Ian Stuart of Calgary, and three children: John (Melanie) of Peachland, Valerie (Norman) Alton of Calgary, and Elizabeth Watts (Warren Murschell) of Vancouver. She is lovingly remembered by her eight grand children; Lynn, Christine, and John Watts; David, John, and Ken Alton; Amy and Gillian Murschell, and five great grandchildren: Maddie, Niall, Spencer, Dominick and Scott. Following cremation, a family graveside service will be held in September at Holy Trinity Anglican Church near Sidney, BC.
