ARTHUR BRIDGE

BRIDGE, Arthur, known as “Art, sadly passed away on January 2nd, 2016, after a brief stay at Eagle Park Health Care Facility, in Qualicum Beach.

In his 92nd year, Art was born in Belleville, Ontario, July 11th, 1924. In the Financial Services fields during his working life, he was the General Manager of the Coastal Community Credit Union, until his retirement. Art was predeceased by his wife Maureen, and is survived by his wife of 26 years, Fay (Frances). He also leaves his four children: Vicki Mulligan (Robert); Val Wise; Kieran Bridge; and Richard Bridge (Sarah); eight grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

Art was an army veteran of WWII with the 1st Battalion, Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders of Canada (Princess Louise’s). He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and a wonderful award was presented to him in a ceremony at the Legion in 2015. By decree of the President of the Republic of France, Art was raised to the rank of Knight of the National Order of the Legion of Honour. He was presented with a medal, with France’s respect regarding his contributions to the campaign that led to the liberation of France. This, Art really treasured. Art was an avid golfer and was a member of the Qualicum Beach Memorial Golf Course for many years, (Maureen was an excellent golfer too!).

Cremation has taken place and because of his love of golf, Art’s final wishes were to be settled to rest in the Military Cemetery, on the Gorge Vale Golf Course, in Victoria. There will be no service, at his request.

Donations, if desired, can be made to any private dog rescue facility, and the SPCA. Fay would like to express her thanks to the staff at Eagle Park Health Care Facility; also her special thanks to Donna, Heather, Cathy & Loretta for their loving support, and to Doug for his assistance.
