It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Dad, Grandfather and Great Grandfather.

Art was predeceased by his parents: Minnie and Thomas Best, infant daughter Yvonne, beloved wife Evelyn, brother George and sister Myrtle.

Art is survived by his children: son Wayne Best, daughters: Bev Ballan, Rita Caisley (Dennis) and Louisa Kalugin (Teema), wife Beatrice and her daughters: Shirley Eckerson (John) and Jan Crowe (Warren). Art is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren and many special nieces and nephews.

Art was born November 2, 1924 in Lloydminster Alta/Sask. He went to school and worked on the family farm until 1946. Art came to Port Alberni, where he met and married Evelyn on June 29, 1948. He worked as a longshoreman for many years. Art enjoyed boating, fishing and hunting.

While living in Port Alberni they had three children: Wayne, Bev and Rita. Art moved his family to Tahsis in 1956, where he worked in the mill. They were saddened by the loss of their infant daughter Yvonne on November 15, 1961, but rejoiced with the birth of Louisa on March 11, 1963. The family moved back to Port Alberni in 1964. Art worked at A.P.D. as a millwright/welder. On October 31, 1979, his beloved wife passed away with cancer. Four years later Art married Beatrice. Art retired in 1989.

Through Art’s life in BC, Art dedicated his life to his God Jehovah, caring for his fellow man and sharing his beliefs and faith. Art will always be remembered for his happy, smiling face and his readiness to help anyone in need, young or old.
