June 8, 1924 - June 13, 2019
Jack and Hilda Booth welcomed Audrey into this world on June 8, 1924 in Dubuc, Sask. She was raised on a wheat farm outside Dubuc which had a population of 100 at the time (current population is 60).
Being raised on a farm, living through the Great Depression and a World War really shaped Audrey into the witty, positive, smart and very resourceful woman she was.
She moved to Hamilton, ON in 1942 to build gun barrels for the War. Her parents moved to Errington on Vancouver Island where her younger brother Joe entered her life and bought the how to Errington General store. Audrey followed them to Vancouver where she met her love and husband Wilf Wheeler ice skating in Robson Square. They lived together in an apartment in the West End (The Sylvia Hotel was the tallest building in the area at the time).
They soon bought a house in North Vancouver's Pemberton Heights neighborhood in 1950 where they raised their two son's John (Taylor) and Ted (Cheri) Wheeler. Wilf bought Metal & Wood Products in 1958 which he operated, later with his sons until he retired in the late 1970's. Audrey and Wilf moved to Parksville after retirement and turned their summer cottage into a home which remains in the family today.
Audrey lived her life in her dream home overlooking Parksville Bay where she got to watch her four grandchildren play summer after summer; Natalie, Samantha, Amanda and Dean.
Audrey is survived by her brother, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren; Benjamin, Brooks and Reese - she called them her greats. We are so happy our matriarch lived long enough to be a part of their lives.
She passed away peacefully at the Gardens in Qualicum Beach where she received truly amazing care for her final days. She was surrounded by family and days away from her 95th birthday.
Anyone who knew Audrey or had the pleasure of meeting her would refer to this woman as a true legend. She was no wallflower and lived her life fully into her 90's. She was a force of positivity and is an example to live by.
We will be celebrating this beautiful soul Wednesday, July 24th at her home in Parksville at 3 pm.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Parksville SPCA would meet Audreys approval.
