Bernard William O’Callaghan

Bernie passed away surrounded by the love of his family at the Rocky View Hospital in Calgary on December 17, 2014 at the age of 80.

He will be lovingly remembered by sons Bill (Irene) of Calgary, Brian of Kamloops, treasured grandchildren Riley and Katie as well as brother Tom of Ottawa.  He was predeceased by his loving wife Marnie in May, 2014 as well as sisters Verna and Marie.

Bernie was born in Ottawa on May 22, 1934 to Olive and William O’Callaghan. He joined the RCMP in 1953 and served in detachments in Flin Flon, The Pas, Dauphin, Lundar, Carman and Winnipeg headquarters, retiring after 37 years of service. Bernie was an avid lover of sports, acting on many committees throughout Manitoba and coaching minor hockey and baseball in the various towns where he was posted.

He was never happier than with his family and friends, playing hockey or baseball and was an active player until his late 70’s. As a result of hearing loss, Bernie became involved with the Canadian Hard of Hearing and served on both the provincial and national board.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

The family are very grateful for the excellent care and kindness shown to Bernie at the Heartland Seniors  Residence,  Father Lacombe Home, Calgary EMTs and paramedics as well as the physicians and staff at RVH.

If friends so desire, donations may be made to the charity of their choice. Arrangements in the care of Snodgrass  Funeral  Homes Ltd. Okotoks
