Charlotte Pearl Gilmore

GILMORE, Charlotte Pearl

September 18, 1918 — September 14, 2003

Pearl left us from the arms of her partner and husband of 55 years at home on Tuesday, September 14, 2003. Pearl was predeceased by her mom and dad, Amy and Tom Little. She is survived by her husband Gwynne (Gil) and much loved children, grandchildren, eight younger brothers, sisters and their families. Sons Lloyd (Linda) and grandsons Adrien and Aaron, Wayne (Brenda) and grandsons Griffin and Dayton; daughters Shannon Atherfold and granddaughter Danielle, Collen Weir and granddaughters Lindsay and Mandy; brothers Tom (Milly), Albert (Rene), Fred (Bev) and George (Iola); sisters Ruby Norgaard, Ivy Bielby (Bernie), Grace McKeown (Carl) and Hilda Thoms (Frank). Pearl was born at home on a farm near Donovan, Saskatchewan and like so many during the 20’s and dirty thirties, grew up on the farm — no running water, electricity, welfare, U.I.C., “baby bonuses”, Medicare, Pharmacare, Penicillin or 911. Just hard work, a loving sharing family and caring neighbors for support and survival. The oldest of nine — so much expected, so much effort needed — so much given — like driving a team of horses hauling grain to the elevator at harvest time when you’re seven. Pearl was a proud member of the RCAF (Women’s Division) during WW2. Among the first class of 24 from the west serving over four years at various air stations across Canada. Loving and caring, Pearl found purpose and reward in sharing and strength in doing what she believed was right. In balance with her family, friends, the seasons and Mother Nature. An avid gardener, she treasured all living things, celebrated the fragrance, forms and colour of a rose, the mix of sun and rain that brings a rainbow, the majesty of our island sunsets, you lived life well. Pearl, sharing, loving, respecting - plants, flowers, shrubs, trees each a living memory - your love for all of us endures, “we love you.”

No service by request. A Celebration of Life to be arranged at a later date.
