Christian Michael (Mike) Madsen

Mike lost a long fight with cancer at the age of 66. He passed away in his sleep early on Monday, May 15, 2017 in Parksville, BC.

Mike returned to Parksville to spend his remaining time with his family after battling cancer for over a year in Chilliwack, BC and is formerly from Winnipeg MB. Mike is survived by his mother, Else Marïe Madsen; children, Trevor Michael (Crystal Rose) Madsen, Steven Christian Madsen (Alena Peterson); grandchildren, Zaya Alena Peterson-Madsen, Tiberius Michael Madsen; wife, Bernie Madsen; his siblings, Mogens (Maryanne) Madsen, Bodil (Ingemann) Larsen, Joanne (Pete) Kaufhold , Vita (John) Verret, and John (Linda) Madsen; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Svend Johannes Madsen.

Born in Humlum, Denmark on July 22, 1950, Mike immigrated to Canada with his family in July 1957 where they settled in Winnipeg. He became a long-haul truck driver and worked in the furniture moving industry until he retired in 2010. On December 29, 1985, he married Bernie and welcomed his two sons on July 9, 1986 and June 7, 1988 respectively, who were the most important parts of his life. He was also blessed with two grandchildren on March 21, 2010 and January 16, 2017.

Mike loved his family very much and enjoyed spending time with them. He also enjoyed driving all over Canada for his work and loved his afternoon naps. He had a very kind and giving spirit and would often go out of his way to help a friend of his, whether that be cooking them a meal or a giving them a roof over their head. Despite health complications later in his life he always had a positive attitude and a smile on his face. Mike was greatly loved and will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

The family would like to thank the staff at Chilliwack General Hospital and Hospice Unit at Trillium Lodge for taking care of Mike these past years and giving us extra time with him.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Yates Memorial Services, 1000 Allsbrook Road in Parksville, BC.

A service will be held later in the year in Winnipeg to place his remains next to his father. Contact the family for these details.
