August 3, 1994 - June 16, 2021
It is with shattered hearts that we say good-bye to Christie after a fierce sixteen-month battle with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.
Christie is survived by her devoted parents, Marnie & Joe Law, Len & Lori Paisley; her siblings who she loved so much; Nathan Paisley (Carly Gunter) Jessalyn Law, Ken (Megan) Law, and by her newlywed husband of just a few months, Howard Saavedra of Salt Lake City, Utah; Grandparents Linda Smith & Al Morrison, HT (Bud) Smith, Lynda Chamberlin, Vince & Julia Law, and Pauline MacMillan. She also left behind her beloved uncle, Neil Smith and his family: Michael (Kristen, Sienna, Arlo), Nolan (Jess), Emily and Jackson.
Christie was born August 3 1994 in St. Joseph's Hospital in Comox, and lived in the Comox Valley during her early years, moving to Nanoose Bay with her family when she was five. Christie attended Nanoose Bay Elementary School, Springwood Middle School and Ballenas High School, graduating in 2012. During her school years, she was involved in many activities, such as dance, figure skating, youth soccer, summer swim club and attending summer camp. She tried her hand at piano, violin, singing, trumpet and ukulele. She went on to live in Las Vegas after high school, and she served a mission for her church in Huancayo, Peru for 18 months from 2013-2015.
Christie attended LDS Business College in Salt Lake City and finished her Bachelor of Science in Business and Marketing at BYU Idaho. She was brilliant in sales and spoke fluent Spanish. In December of 2019, barely two months prior to her devastating diagnosis, Christie had moved to Sacramento, California, where she was beginning to pursue her dream of living life to the fullest. She hoped to live close to the ocean where she could practise learning to surf, work, enjoy friendships old and new, and most importantly, to have a family. She loved babies and children, Netflix, her cats at home in Nanoose and friendly dogs she met anywhere that she referred to as "good-boys". She was brave and bold and beautiful, and we will desperately miss her crazy-quirky humor and generous heart.
A celebration of Christie's life will be held at the Knox United Church, Parksville on Sunday, July 25 at 1:30. In lieu of flowers there are many wonderful charities in our community to pay forward to. Please consider donating blood, and if you are between the ages of 17 and 35, register as a potential stem cell donor. Christie loved nothing more than to hear of other cancer patients who battled and won.
