October 16, 1947 - April 1, 2019
After a battle with cancer, Chris passed away April 1, 2019. He will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife of 48 years, Susan (Nosworthy). He was very proud of his two daughters, Sandra Craig and Barbara Plett and his son-in- law Nathan Plett. His three grandchildren were the apple of his eye - Alana Plett, Owen Plett and Andrew Craig. Chris is also survived by his sisters Margaret Porter and Barbara Hicks (Brian Okell), his sister-in- law Shirley Lee and brothers-in- law Ron Chase, Reg Nosworthy, Brian (Diane) Nosworthy, as well as his nieces and nephews. Chris was predeceased by his sister Joan Chase, brother David Lee, and his parents Clayton and Joan Lee.
Following Churchill High School in Winnipeg, where he and Susan met, Chris joined the RCMP in 1968. Chris served in Alberta - Fort MacLeod, Bow Island, Picture Butte, Cardston, Waterton Lakes National Park, Peace River, Drayton Valley, St. Albert and in Manitoba, where he retired in 1997 as Inspector of the Steinbach Subdivision. Chris and Susan moved to Qualicum Beach, BC and began "part two" of their journey together. Chris started his own computer support and web design business until he retired at the age of 65. As a volunteer he was a founding member of the Kinsmen Clubs of Drayton Valley and Cardston. He served on the executive of the Qualicum Beach Chamber of Commerce, the Brown Property Preservation Society, Nanoose Power Squadron, Castaway's Fly Fishing Club, B2B Theatre Society and ECHO Theatre Society. His dreams of owning his own boat were fulfilled and he enjoyed many peaceful hours on the Pacific Ocean with friends and family.
Through the RCMP, Chris and Susan met many interesting people as they transferred throughout Alberta and Manitoba and finally settled in BC. Many of those friendships were maintained over the years. Chris wanted to thank everyone who kept in touch as he battled cancer. He loved nothing better than to share a good laugh as he reminisced with you.
The family would like to thank the wonderful doctors, nursing and support staff of Nanaimo Regional Hospital including the Cancer Care Unit and the Palliative Care Unit (which Chris referred to as the Spa for sick people), and especially his family doctor, Dr. Kevin Martin, who cared for Chris for many years.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2 pm, at St. Stephen's United Church, 150 Village Way, Qualicum Beach. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Palliative Care Unit at NRGH.
