Collette Lillian Prenevost

December 31,1930 - March 13, 2016

Mom died peacefully at Trillium Lodge in Parksville, BC, surrounded by her children, Brent (Jacqueline), Nancy (Peter), Grant and Jason (Adrienne). Predeceased by her parents, Earl and Grace Hauser and her husband Jim, she also leaves behind the “loves of her life” her three grandchildren, Sam, Patrick and Michael.

After finishing high school in Assiniboia where she met her future husband Jim, Mom moved to Moose Jaw and trained at Providence Hospital where she became an RN. As proud as mom was of her career as a nurse her greatest joy and pride was in her role as mother and grandmother. She instilled in each of her children the importance of education and hard work and she was never hesitant in expressing her opinion when any one of her family were not living up to their potential.

Mom had a wonderful sense of humour and could always laugh at herself. She loved being the center of attention and was always a good sport whenever she was the subject of a practical joke or quip from one of her children. Mom loved people and she met people wherever she went - her circle of acquaintances was as varied as the people she met while enjoying a cigarette at a coffee shop. In her later years she “volunteered” at a Mexican restaurant, a flower shop and a coffee shop in Parksville.

Mom leaves behind many friends and acquaintances including her dear friend, Josie Polz who was both a friend and caregiver for mom and dad at the end of their lives for which their children will always be eternally grateful.

Even though mom and dad moved from Assiniboia to Maple Ridge in 1970 and then ultimately to Parksville in 2000, mom always considered herself a “prairie girl” and vowed that she would someday return to her little house on the prairie. Mom will get her wish - she will be laid to rest in Assiniboia.

Mom could quote Shakespeare from her high school days and did so even in the last months of her life: “To die, to sleep-to sleep perchance to dream- ay there’s the rub, for in this sleep of death what dreams may come”

A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date. Please consider honouring her memory by making a donation in her name to Covenant House Vancouver.
