It is with heavy hearts we say goodbye to Darel who leaves a legacy of goodwill that will live on forever in those whose lives he touched. Though unexpected, Darel passed away peacefully surrounded by so much love.
Darel excelled in his banking career of 27 years and continued sharing his wisdom of business and life acumen as a consultant. His generous heart shone through all boundaries and anyone who encountered him felt special. He was a very devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Darel is survived by his wife of 17 years, Sharon, daughter Kim (Kyle), son Bryce (Candace), step-daughter Whitney, Rose Winters (grandmother to Kim and Bryce), grandchildren Alexys, Zenobia, Xandreya, Davien, Aeon, Liam and Gavin, sisters Joan Oswald, Doreen McEneaney (John), Arlene Thorsten (John), Val (Riley), brother Phil and many nieces and nephews.
Darel was pre-deceased by his parents Raymond and Ione Ellert, his former wife Lavon (mother of his children) and step-daughter Kelsey Hemstock.
A celebration of life to honor Darel will held in the future and will be announced soon.
Our family is deeply grateful for the kindness and support Darel and the family received from the Palliative Care Unit at the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.
