June 5, 1936 - October 30, 2019
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Denise Mottle. Mum had a short but intense battle with brain cancer, which ended in the Trillium hospice unit, early Wednesday morning on October. 30th, 2019.
Survived by her spouse of 58 years, Robert; son Duane (Richard); son Dene (Rosa) and daughter Bryn (Leah); grandchildren Leesha, Dean, Kali and Grace and great granddaughter Dhalia.
Born in Coventry, England to Dennis and Grace Holt, she attended Kings High School for Girls and graduated in 1956 from the County of Stafford Training College as a qualified teacher. Two years later she traveled to B.C. with friends to experience Canada. Although the friends decided to journey back to England, mum stayed on. Teaching in Price Rupert, Powell River and finally Port Alberni, where she met and married Bob Mottle. After living on Stirling Arm Drive, Sproat Lake for 25 years, they retired to Qualicum Beach in 1991. Here, mum became active with St. Marks Church, various choir groups, walking and hiking groups and PGOSA.
Always ready to help anyone at any time, mum could be found driving friends to appointments, hosting meals for the tired or lonely and being supportive of those in need. Sharp, with a good sense of humor, mum was also well known for both her water colour, and later, oil paintings.
We would like to thank Dr. Sue Hunter and the nurses at Trillium hospice, who gave such excellent and compassionate care, making mum's final days as comfortable as possible.
A memorial service will be held at St. Marks Church, Qualicum Beach, on Friday, November 8th, 11 am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the SOS Caring for Community at Christmas program. This helps by giving those in need, gift cards for purchasing food from local grocery stores at Christmas.
