June 9, 1934 - June 1, 2011

Our beloved Diane passed away after a short hospital stay for surgeries. She was born in Saskatoon and was the daughter of Dan and Jenny Ward. Dan was an award winning journalist and radio personality. Her mother, like Diane, was a gourmet cook to the delight of many family and friends. Her husband, Harry, predeceased her in January 1985. Diane’s passion for playing cards was well evident in both Qualicum Beach and Parksville Legions. Diane and her crib partner represented B.C. in the Canadian Crib Finals in Ottawa. They came in second; beat out by a couple from Newfoundland. Although she loved to win, her response was “He made me laugh so hard, I couldn’t concentrate.”

Diane was a champion at everything she put her hand to. She was a top stylist in a Granville Street Salon. She held a chef position at Burnaby General Hospital. Making home made wine became a passion. Within two years, Diane and her friend were taking awards from seasoned wine makers Canada wide.

Diane and Ron had many wonderful vacations in the past four years but her favourite place in the whole world was Ron’s family cabin on Hornby Island. Ron’s family were so kind and welcoming, she came to love them all. Her ashes will be spread in the waters off Hornby Island at a later date.

Diane will be sadly missed by her son Danny, her fiance’ Ron Dalziel, his family and the many who knew her like Hoki & Bev Davis who have loved her as a sister for over 50 years.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Qualicum Beach Legion,

Tuesday, June 21st. at 1:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Second Chances Dog Rescue would be appreciated. Diane adopted her last dog, Sugar, through that organization.
