Disa Marie Hale

March 25, 1936 – April 9, 2017

It is with great sadness that we announce Disa Marie Hale has passed, surrounded by her loving husband and family, on April 9, 2017, in her home in Nanoose Bay.

Disa was born March 25, 1936 in Innisfail, Alberta. She was adopted by her mother’s sister and enjoyed the love of both families. She became a registered nurse, graduating from Calgary General Hospital in 1957. Many classmates would become lifelong friends. During the Calgary Stampede she would meet the love of her life, Ronald Bruce, and in May 1958 they would be married. Eventually, they moved to Nanoose Bay, and built the Midway park on Parksville Beach. They then moved the park and it became the Nanoose Bay Go Kart Track with the Gnome.

Disa’s passion was art and as the children moved away she entered many art shows, volunteered at TOSH, the McMillan Arts Centre, and established the Arrowsmith Chapter of the Canadian Federation of Art. She took her inspiration from life and nature, especially while working in her gardens.

Disa is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, sisters, and son, Bruce. She is survived by her devoted husband, Ronald; son, Christopher (Angie); daughters, Linda (Gordon) and Lisa (Sailor); grandchildren, Sarah (Dean), Bridget (Dean), Brennen (Emily), Ronnie, Jamie, Robert, Kathy (Stefan), and Disa; one sister, Marvel; one brother, Howard; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Service of Remembrance in Disa’s honour will be held at 2:00pm on

Thursday, April 20th, 2017 in The Allsbrook Room at Yates Memorial Services. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the British Columbia and Yukon Cancer Society, 565 West 10th Ave, Vancouver, BC V52 4J4.
