Donald “Don” Gordon COWARD
January 23, 1927 – October 31, 2015
Don passed away peacefully at his home in Qualicum Beach on Saturday, October 31, 2015 surrounded by his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Pamela; children, Linda (Mike) of Victoria BC, Trevor (Louise) of Perth, Australia; and his grandson, Benjamin.
Born in Walvis Bay, South West Africa, Don grew up in East London, South Africa. He immigrated to Toronto, Ontario in 1954 and relocated to London, England in 1957. It was during his time in England that he met Pam. They were married in 1959 and shortly afterwards moved to Durban, South Africa.
Over the years, Don worked in the sugar industry as a design engineer. In his leisure time, he enjoyed playing chess, cricket, and squash, and loved sailing. After his retirement, Don and Pam moved a final time to Qualicum Beach where he spent many happy hours on the lawn bowling green at the Qualicum Beach Lawn Bowling Club.
The family extend grateful thanks to the VIHA home support team and the nurses for their wonderful care during Don’s final days.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Don’s honour at the Qualicum Beach Lawn Bowling Club House at 665 Jones Street in Qualicum Beach at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, November 10 with a tea to follow.
