Donald Gordon CASSIE

Donald Gordon CASSIE

February 17, 1943 – February 24, 2017

Peacefully, with family at his bedside, Don passed away at St. Boniface Hospital. Don fell sick on Christmas Eve while visiting family in Winnipeg over the holidays. He will be sadly missed by his beloved family, long time friends, his fur-buddy Jack, and a large number of friends and acquaintances in British Columbia. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Linda, and his brother, Marshall.

Don was mostly self-employed and operated a number of businesses in Winnipeg and Vancouver Island; ranging from a used car lot in Winnipeg, Red’s Classic Café and Red’s Model Car Store in Coombs. Cars were Don’s passion and he collected and traded a number of classic cars, including his favourite 1951 Mercury, which he drove around the Coombs area. Don and Linda moved to Vancouver Island in 1990 and lived mostly in the Coombs/Parksville area. Don was well known and was recognized as “Red” with his long red hair. Jack now resides with brother Norm, and his furry cousin Rocky, in Winnipeg.

The family would like to thank Medical and Support staff at St. Boniface Hospital for their exceptional care and compassion shown to Don during his two months in their care. The family also wishes to thank all Don’s neighbours and friends in the Coombs area for their friendship, concern, and support shown him during his illness. Your assistance is greatly appreciated. Our heartfelt thanks to Errington Pet Lodge for the great care of Jack over his lengthy stay.

A private service will be held in Winnipeg at a later date. Donations

if desired may be made to St. Boniface Hospital Foundation.

You are greatly missed Don, with love.
