Donald Phillip Wilhelm
January 10, 1941 – December 17, 2016
With heavy hearts, we announce Don’s passing on Saturday, December 17, 2016. He will be sadly missed by his son, Donald (Elka) Wilhelm; daughter, Laura Wilhelm; grandchildren, Dawson and Auna; brother, Ken (Loraine), many extended friends and family members. Don was predeceased by his parents Lillian and Samuel Wilhelm, his former wife, Audrey, and his brother, Jim.
Born and raised in Calgary, Don married Audrey in 1967. He spent countless hours driving an 18 wheeler and could navigate around the streets and laneways of the city with ease. In 1973, he and Audrey moved to MacKenzie, BC where Don operated a Shell Gas Station/Garage with his brother, Ken. 1978 found the family relocating to Parksville, BC where they began a new business venture and opened Shoppers Grocery Mart, a popular convenience store which is now owned and managed by his children, Laura and Don.
Don had a reputation for giving those who crossed his path on a regular basis - friend, customer, or family member - a nick name. His family and friends will always remember him as a loving, honest, and caring man with a great sense of humour and an infectious smile.
