Doris passed away in Victoria on January 28th, 2016. She was born and raised in Victoria BC, and was the second youngest of eight siblings. She was pre-deceased by her first husband, Robert Lewis and her second husband, Stewart Anderson. She is survived by her son Griffin (Jayne) and grandson Eamon.
Doris was a warm, considerate, and loving wife, sister, mother, and grandmother. She adored her family, in particular her grandson, and enjoyed many hours playing Lego and building forts with him in his early years. Always an adventurer, she was one of the first women to downhill ski on Vancouver Island and rally raced sports cars in the 1950's. Her interests were diverse and included square dancing, travelling, gardening and RV'ing . In fact, Doris owned a motorhome and was part of the Happy Wanders RV club until well into her seventies. Always ready to volunteer, she believed in giving back. Doris was involved in one of the first programs to support women with breast cancer, and she campaigned tirelessly for the Cancer Society. She was also involved with the Historical Society in Qualicum Beach, where she lived for many years. She loved to organize events and knew how to throw a great party. She was probably never happier than after a hard day of work in her garden, sitting in the sun with a glass of sherry or cold beer in her hand.
Unfortunately, the quality of Doris' life was drastically reduced over the past ten years due to dementia. She was loved by many and we will all miss the "real Doris" we knew.
A short celebration of life will be held at 2PM on Wednesday, February 17th at Sands Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the Canadian Cancer Society or BCSPCA in Doris's memory.
