It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of wife, mother & grandmother Doris McAree. She suffered a massive heart attack and passed away peacefully in Nanaimo Regional Hospital to her heavenly home, on June 24th. Doris was born in Dogmersfield Hants, England on January 26, 1923.
She came to Canada in 1946 as a war bride to Jack. They enjoyed 62 years of married life. Doris was a wonderful mother who had many talents, cooking, sewing, knitting, gardening, floral arranging and used all to create a beautiful home. She was known as the “ Dessert Queen “ by her family. Jack & Doris began their Canadian life in Winnipeg and spent periods living in Dauphin, Toronto, Thompson, back in Wpg. & New Westminster before retiring in 1988 and moving to Qualicum Beach. In Winnipeg Doris worked for Eatons and in 1973 started with Woodwards in New West. During her 14 years with Woodwards she formed many close relationships with other Woodward employees. In Qualicum she enjoyed continuing friendships with Ex Woodward staff that moved to the area and also made many other happy relationships .. playing bridge and enjoying occasional afternoon trips to the casino. She is survived by, Husband Jack, daughter Ruth ( Heather ) ( Samuel Kebede ) son Grant ( Darlene ), Sister in law Beryl ( Chuck Malloch ) , Brother in law Doug ( Faye ), She was a surrogate grandmother to Cameron & Mitchell Appleby and Hiwot & Eyob Kebede. She was predeceased by her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Lamin, three sisters and two brothers. Doris has one British nephew John living in London.
Her family wish to express a special thank you to Dr McIntyre of Qualicum Beach and the staff of the Nanaimo Regional Hospital ICU Unit for their care and kindness.
There will be a memorial gathering in Qualicum Beach in August at a location and time to be announced.
