Dorothy Manzer passed away peacefully with family at her side on Friday, January 2, 2009 at the Kinsmen Care Home in Delta.

Many people in Parksville will remember Dorothy for her involvement with the University Women, the

BP Guild and other forms of community volunteerism.

Dorothy studied at Victoria College and UBC. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Zoology & Mathematics from the University of British Columbia in 1949. Upon graduation, Dorothy worked as a fisheries statistician at the Pacific Biological Station – Nanaimo (PBS) until her marriage in May 1950 and subsequent departure for Ontario. Dorothy accompanied her husband Doug as their moves took them from British Columbia to Ontario, Quebec, Ontario, Quebec, Alberta and finally back to her cherished Vancouver Island. Dorothy and Doug retired to Martindale Road in Parksville in 1988 until they moved to Tsawwassen in 2006.

Dorothy was a dedicated wife and loving mother who participated actively in volunteer activities in each community where they lived. She was active with the United Church Women in Sept-Îles and Thetford Mines, QC. Dorothy also was very involved with her children’s schools. She was a Girl Guide leader before marriage and was a member of District Guiding Committees for many years.

Dorothy was an active member in the Canadian Federation of University Women - Parksville/Qualicum Chapter from 1989 until her health made it difficult for her to continue.

Dorothy is remembered fondly by her brothers Donald (Agnes) of Port Alberni and Stuart of Nanaimo; her brother-in-law Norman of Nanaimo; her three children, their spouses, her six grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Dorothy was predeceased by Doug, her husband of 57 years, in 2007; her sister-in-law Dorothy in 2001 and by her sister Marjorie in 1996.

By her request, there was no service.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Federation of University Women Parksville/Qualicum Chapter, Covenant House (Vancouver) or the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
