Our dear Charles, from Mitchell's Farm, known to many as Charlie, Addie and Dr. Charles left us March 20th in Nanaimo Hospital after an emergency surgery which overwhelmed his recovery.
He leaves Jill, his wife of 48 wonderful years, his daughter Lori and granddaughter Stephanie, other relatives and many colleagues and close friends.
Charles was born in Kings Daughter's Hosp., Duncan in 1937. He lived all his life on Vancouver Island in many areas but returned to the Cowichan Valley for his high school graduation in 1955.
He went to UBC Medical School graduating in 1962. Interned in St. Joseph's Hosp.and started in Family Practice in 1963 to 1967 in Victoria. In 1967, moved to Duncan and started in Family Practice with Dr. Tassin taking on his practice, until retiring in 2000. He continued practice in walk in clinics in Victoria and finally left family practice in 2003.
In the 1960's he was very active with Political ambitions, for the Social Credit Party, when he was a candidate for the BC Legislature in four elections. In the 70's was President of the Cowichan Valley Medical Society and Chief of Medical Staff in Cowichan Hospital. During his time, became active with the BC Medical Association and served on the Patterns of Practice Committee, Medical Advisory Committee to MSPBC, and BCMA Rep. to the Audit and Inspection Com. to MSPBC, finally retiring in 2005.
In 1982 became a member of the Malaspina University College Board of Management and was Chairman of Board in 1990 to 1992. Member of the Zenith Gyro Club, of Duncan, for 32 years and the Kiwanis Club of Victoria in the 60s.
Since 2004 became a farmer, living on the farm Jill was raised in Nanoose Bay, doing what pleased him, growing and selling vegetables and eggs, chatting to customers. He loved his home and garden where he wanted to stay as long as possible. His dream was to be able to play the bagpipes again but his wind wasn't sufficient. He will be so missed but memories will live on.
