March 21, 1942 - July 21, 2022
With profound sadness, we announce the death of Dr. Edward John Booth on July 21, 2022 at his home with family in South Surrey, BC, at the age of 80.
John was born on March 21, 1942 in Stretford, Lancashire, England. He qualified as a doctor at Manchester Medical University in 1966 and married his wife Ruth in 1968. They emigrated to Canada that same year and settled in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where daughter Sarah and son Andrew were born. The family moved to Qualicum Beach in 1980, where John and Ruth remained until 2019.
"Dr Booth" was a busy GP at the Ferntree Clinic (formerly the Sebright Clinic) from 1980 until 1996. He went into semi-retirement but continued performing surgical assists at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital until 2012. He had been an active member of the Qualicum Beach Rotary Club as well as at the Concord Masonic Lodge in Parksville. He was District Deputy Grand Master for District 22 in 2007-2008. John was an avid gardener, fisherman and hiker, and had many meaningful friendships within the Qualicum Beach community.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ruth, children Sarah (Todd) and Andrew (Danica) and their families, including 9 grandchildren, and both his sisters Mavis and Lynda and their families.
A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, October 22 at Yates Memorial Services (1000 Allsbrook Rd) in Parksville. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in support of Alzheimers/dementia research.
