GODWIN, Earl George Born in Whitewood, Sask. on March 12, 1934 to Lilly and James Godwin, Earl George passed away suddenly on Wednesday, September 1, 2004 in Nanaimo Regional General Hospital at 70 years of age. Predeceased by his granddaughter Heather Anne Wilgenhof. He is survived by his beloved wife Fay; son Larry; daughters Lynn (Terry) Wilgenhof, and Shelley Godwin (Mark); granddaughter Kristen McDonald; sister Marilyn Jack (Mackenzie); brother Douglas (Eleanor), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Earl moved to Port Alberni in 1953 and married Fay in 1954. He developed an interest in boats at a young age on the Qu'Appelle River in Saskatchewan and maintained his love of boats throughout his life. While working for M&B at Alpulp Mill he built several boats for himself and friends. After 25 years with the mill he prawn fished for a short time. In 1982 he purchased a 66' tug boat and started hand logging. In 1988 he and his partner started a boat building business, E.& D. Manufacturing. A Graveside Service to inter Earl's cremated remains was held on Thursday, September 9, 2004 from the Alberni Valley Memorial Park with Rev. Hudson officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in Earl's memory may be made to either the B.C. Heart and Stroke Foundation of B.C. & Yukon, 1212 W. Broadway, Vancouver B.C. V7H 3V2, or Coombs Hilliers Fire Dept., P.O. Box 40, Coombs, B.C. V0R 1M0.
