Elaine Elenore VanderByl (Oma, great Oma and Auntie Elaine) passed away peacefully at St. Charles Manor in Victoria BC on December 5th, 2015, at the age of 98yrs. Elaine was born on Oct. 17th, 1917 in Regina, Saskatchewan.

She was predeceased by her parents William Kancir and Elizabeth (Bessie) Ardelyn; her 1st husband, Major Richard Terence Cook; her 2nd husband, Christianus Josefus VanderByl; sisters, Marie Schuster, Kay Stefanyk, Irene O’Crane, Julia Kreutzer and Anne Elliott; and brother, John Kancir. Elaine is survived by many stepchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Auntie Elaine, Oma, and Great Oma to some of us, was a witty, loving and caring person always prompting discussions of views on all matters.  She was loved, respected and a leader in her own right and will be sorely missed.  Elaine was an active member of the Church of the Ascension for many years, a keen bridge player and loved to travel the world. She was a voracious reader and in her early years helped fundraise and was a founder of the Salt Spring Island Library.

We wish Elaine a loving and peaceful journey.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, December 11th

at the Catholic Church of the Ascension, 887 Wembley Road in Parksville.

A private family interment will follow.
