ELFRIEDE META SPRUNG
(nee Witt)
It is with sad hearts that we must announce the passing of our dearly beloved Wife, Mother, Oma and Ur-Oma, Elfriede Meta Sprung. Elfriede was born in Buxtehude, Germany on January 24th, 1936. She went to school in Ovelgönne, Germany, grew up and worked as a nursing aide in a seniors home in Neu Wulmstorf, Germany. She married the love of her life on August 4th, 1956 and together they emigrated to Canada in October of that same year. They settled in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on Halloween day of 1956 and together raised 3 children. Arvid was born on the 13th of May 1958, Bernie on March 2nd, 1962 and Cornelia on November 16, 1969.
Upon retiring in 1994 Elfriede and Ewald moved to Parksville, BC. She loved gardening, sewing, spinning and weaving. Elfriede was the founder of the Qualicum Spinners & Weavers Guild.
“Oma” loved her family and cherished every moment spent with them, including phone calls and letters. She was blessed to have spent much time with her special grand daughters and to experience the blessing of her great grand children.
She was predeceased by her parents Emma Witt (nee Meier) and Heinrich Witt. Survived by her husband of 60 years Ewald Karl Sprung and children: Arvid Peter Sprung (Betty), Parksville; Bernie Ewald Sprung (Laurie), Saskatoon, Sask; Cornelia Marga Sprung (Bob), Boise Idaho, USA. Also surviving are her grandchildren: Cynthia Dawn Olson (Trevor), Saskatoon, Sask and Melodie Anne Balaberda (Josh), Saskatoon, Sask; as well as two great-grandchildren: Lucas James Balaberda and Emma Dawn Balaberda. She is also surived by her siblings: Inge Strohotte (Friedrich-Wilhelm), Avenwedde-Gütersloh (West Germany), Marga Seifert (Peter), Lörrach.
A service will be held at Our Saviour Lutheran Church, Parksville
