Elise Ross “Betty” Wightman (nee Jack)
With sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother Betty.
Born March 26, 1919 in Inverness, Scotland, she passed away peacefully Friday July 24, 2015 with her family at her side.
Mom was predeceased by husband Herbert Morrison Wightman, brother Alastair Jack and parents Mary and Alec Jack. She will be lovingly remembered by children E. R. “Sandy” Wightman (Mary-Lou), of Surrey, Jane Sacharoff (Richard) of Smithers, and Peter Wightman (Margo) of Lantzville. Wonderful family times will be remembered by grandchildren Sarah (Ben), Kelly (Toby), Allison (Trevor), Reed, Ross (Nicole), Stephanie (Donny) great grandchildren Alex, Cole, Hugo, Ella and Alton and by sisters Dee Malahoff and Moira Herold (Duane).
At the age of 2 she moved to Canada. The family lived in Vancouver, Vernon, Chilliwack and Powell River. During WWII she was a volunteer with the Canadian Red Cross Corps. Sergeant Major Betty Wightman shipped off to serve in London, England, following her husband who left earlier with the RCAF.
Following the war she lived in Prince Rupert and Terrace and retired to Qualicum Beach in 1972. In her retirement she enjoyed many travels and never refused an invitation to join her children on various adventures.
A celebration of Betty’s life will be held at St. Stephen’s United Church
at the corner of Village Way and Memorial in Qualicum Beach at
2:00 pm on Wednesday August 26, 2015. Refreshments will follow.
