(Elizabeth) Jane Stanhope

January 31, 1932 – July 14, 2014

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Jane Stanhope (nee Banks) on Monday, July 14th, with her family by her side.

Jane is survived by her husband of 62 years, Joe Stanhope, her sister, Julia Jenkins, her four children: Rob (Shelley); Richard (Carol); Jennifer (Russell); Jeff (Joanne), seven grandchildren: Tyler, William, Daniel, Emily, Nicole, Edward and Carolyn, and one great-grandson, Evin.

Jane was born in Vancouver and raised in Qualicum Beach where she met Joe at 17 when she offered him a ride to school. It was a 66 year ride. After living in Vancouver, attending UBC and the U of Washington, they moved to Vancouver Island to raise a family, living in Qualicum Beach, Kelsey Bay and then in Port Alberni where she worked as a home-economics teacher at ADSS and later as a graphic artist with her own company, JAL Signs and Designs. Jane also worked with Arthur Erickson and at one time designed dress hats for women. She loved to travel and in her retirement years had the opportunity to see many parts of the world with Joe.

Jane loved all creatures, great and small, and will be missed by her little dog, Reese. She was an accomplished equestrian rider and a very talented artist, known for her specialty in animal portraits and landscape paintings. She loved nature and her garden by the sea and took a fond interest in wildlife, particularly the birds that came throughout the passing seasons. Most of all, she loved her family, enjoying with delight and pride the changing lives and stories of her children and grandchildren.

Jane was a classy, strong, and brave woman who had a blessed life. She will be deeply missed by her family and many friends.

A celebration of Jane’s life will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 2nd, 2014, at St. Edmunds Anglican Church in Parksville, B.C.
