MACHAN, Elizabeth (nee Quinton)

Born February 7, 1928 at Theodore, Sask.?we lost her on October 8, 2007?at home in Parksville, B.C.

Beth was predeceased by her father William (1976), mother Margaret (1955), brother Hugh (1978), sister Muriel (1999), sister Morah (1925) and sister Phyllis (1999).

She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Albert, daughters Carol of Fort St. John and Sandra of Parksville, son Wayne (Leanne) of Airdrie, AB; granddaughters Kirstine of Taiwan, Kimberley (Ashley) of Wembley, AB, Kayleigh (Dustin) of Red Deer, AB and Kathlyn of Kelowna; great-grandchildren Bailey and Keeley of Wembley, AB. She is also survived by her sister Florence (Ted) of Viking, AB and brother Ross (Janice) of Leduc, AB along with many brothers and sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Born and raised in Theodore, Beth went to Normal School at Moose Jaw, Sask. before taking her first teaching job at Coulson where she met her future husband. She then went to teach at Carlyle for two years before they were married in Theodore on July 12, 1949 and went to live on the Machan family farm near Antler. Here their daughters were born before they moved to Port Alberni in 1955. Here their son was born and when he started school Beth went back to teaching, substituting at first.

While teaching full time she completed her Bachelor of Education (1976) and taught primary school for 16 years in the Alberni School District. Al and Beth decided they wanted to retire in Parksville and so bought a home there in 1978 and commuted until their retirement in 1984. Upon retirement they indulged their passions – travel, family, golfing, ?curling, gardening, bridge and church work.

A Celebration of Life service will be held October 15, 2007?at 11 a.m. at Knox United Church, Parksville, B.C.

In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be given to the Knox United Church Memorial Fund, 345 Pym Street, Parksville, B.C. V9P 1C8 or the charity of your choice.
