Born July 17, 1917

Passed away peacefully on March 17th with family at her side, she was 93 and predeceased by her loving husband, Sam in 1997, just one month short of their 60th anniversary.

She is survived by her sons, Ben Gough & wife Leslie of Abbotsford, B.C., Ted Gough & wife Melanye of Celista, B.C. and daughter Darlene Martin & husband Jim Martin of Nanaimo, B.C.

Nellie was a proud grandmother of 7 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and recently a great great grandchild, who unfortunately she never got to meet.

She is also survived by her sister, Irma Armishaw and sister-in-law, Brownie Dixon, both of Nanaimo.

Nellie grew up on a farm in the Nanaimo area where her family grew vegetables and sold them door to door and was married in 1937 to Sam. They moved to Parksville in 1952 and started a business, known as Sam Gough Jewellers and retired in 1974 enjoying 22 year retirement, doing what they loved most, camping and fishing with their many friends.

She spent her last 3 years living at the Stanford Care Campus (retirement home) and was very well cared for enjoying lots of attention and their many functions. Our sincere thanks to all the staff that made Mom’s last 3 years, happy ones. We will be forever grateful to them all, giving Mom much loving care and attention.

She will be dearly missed by her family and all those who knew her well.

Mom’s service was held at the Parksville Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, March 23rd with family, local and out of town, and a few friends attending and internment followed.

If anyone wishing to send a donation in Mom’s memory please consider your favourite charity or the Variety Club Network, she was always a faithful donator, each February.
