The family of Elmer Matthews has had to say “good-bye” to a special and precious husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Elmer lost a short, but very difficult struggle with cancer. He will always be loved and missed by his wife of 55 years, Donna; daughter Lori (Wayne) Henderson; son Greg, son Ross (Penny); grandchildren Holly, Mitch, McKenzie, Jayson and Sarah Matthews; Erin Henderson, Meg (Mike) Pleasance and great grandchildren, Carter and Claire; adopted children, Lucy Muthoni and Paul Kawegah of Kenya. Elmer also leaves one sister Norma Mickelson; nephew Rich, niece Ann and their families.
Elmer amassed many, many very close friends of all ages along his journey. The care given at the end of that journey by the NRGH palliative team was above and beyond all expectations and we thank you all so much.
The family is having a gathering in Elmer’s memory at Echo Centre on Sunday, September 20, 2009 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm. Flowers gratefully declined.
