Erich IHL
November 7, 1940 – October 10, 2015
Erich passed away peacefully at NRGH on Saturday, October 10, 2015 surrounded by loved ones.
He was beloved by many, far and wide and was a true adventurer, generous, big hearted, true to his word, and honest to a fault. Born in Germany, Erich immigrated to Toronto where he ran two successful businesses before immigrating to Sydney, Australia.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Nora whom he nursed until her passing in Italy at a young age. Erich then returned to Vancouver and married Gwen, mother of his sons Anton and Ryan, before finally settling in Qualicum Beach. He leaves behind to mourn his passing his sons, Anton and Ryan; sisters, Edeltraud, Gisela, and Irmgard; brother, Manfred; Godmother of his two sons, Andrea; and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the medical professionals at NRGH, especially the ICU team, and the staff at Yates Funeral Service for their caring and compassion at this difficult time.
In keeping with Erich’s wishes the family respectfully request no flowers or cards be sent. Those wishing to honour Erich’s memory may do so by performing a “random act of kindness” - it is how he would have wanted to be remembered.
A Celebration of Life is being held in Erich’s honour starting at 4:00 pm on Saturday, November 7th in the lounge at the Qualicum Beach Curling Club, 644 Memorial Ave in Qualicum Beach. It would have been his 75th birthday. Family, friends, and customers from Magnum Motors are invited
to come and share memories and raise a toast to Erich.
May he find peace and live on in the hearts and
memories of those who loved and cherished him.
