Joyce Ettinger, age 92, born in New Westminster, B.C. passed away on December 29th, 2019 at Eagle Park Health Care Facility in Qualicum Beach, B.C. after a lengthy battle with dementia. She is survived by her daughter Gail, son in law Doug, four grandchildren Philip (Michelle), Darren, Jan and Paul (Chris) and seven great grandchildren Dylan, Darius, Brooklyn, Josie, Kiara, Ben and Anna. Joyce was predeceased by her parents Harry Endicott Upton born in Peabody, Massachusetts and Estella Upton (nee Morrison) born in Orono, Maine, USA.She was predeceased by the love of her life, her husband Russel in 1995. They met in White Rock, B.C. and were married on the Mission Ship "Columbia"on September 7th, 1946 at Belize Inlet, Allison Harbour, B.C.
They loved to go camping and Mom was always planning their next trip. Although Mom's dementia caused her to forget many things, she always remembered Dad. He was always on her mind and in her heart.
Our family would like to thank Dr. El Karsh, the Nurses, Care Workers and Staff at Eagle Park for your loving and special care during the last six years of her life. We always found her smiling and enjoying herself making crafts, playing bingo and other activities. She loved the garden and some of the staff nicknamed it "Joyce's Garden". She headed outside right after breakfast and the staff joked that sometimes it was hard to get her to come inside for bed. Mom loved all animals and was an animal whisperer. Her happiest day every year at Eagle Park was when the animals visited from Tiger Lily Farm. No service will be held at Joyce's request. Qualicum Beach Memorial Services are looking after her arrangements and will help us have Mom reunited with Dad at the Fraser Cemetery in New Westminster, B.C. at a later date.
