Eyrtle Loreen Hallstrom

(Kidd)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Eyrtle Loreen Hallstrom.  Mom passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on August 24, 2008 in the Nanaimo Regional Hospital.

Eyrtle was born in Foam Lake, Saskatchewan on May 17, 1915 and at a young age moved with her family to Grand Forks BC. Her family grew to 8 girls and 2 boys (the “Kidd Family”) and they enjoyed many wonderful years growing up and later visiting at the “Kidd” reunions.  Eyrtle met and married Eric Hallstrom in Grand Forks and they later settled in Kimberley BC with their four children Joan, Ronald, Gordon, and Donald. In 1951, they moved to Riondel BC where Eric worked as a shift supervisor with Cominco and Mom continued to be very busy raising 4 children and being actively involved in the community. She loved music and gardening, and became a good curler. Mom loved knitting and quilting for her grandchildren, and she was a wonderful cook and we all enjoyed her meals and special treats. They enjoyed almost 40 years in Riondel and when Eric passed away, Eyrtle moved to West Vancouver and then to Parksville and Qualicum to be close to family. Eyrtle was predeceased by her husband Eric (1989), daughter Joan (2001) and 6 sisters and 2 brothers.  Eyrtle will be lovingly missed and remembered by her sister Glendine Brettel, sons Ronald, Gordon (Eleanor) and Donald (Dianne), son-in-law Len Tournier, grandchildren Brenda Tournier, Michelle Hillman (Tournier), Paul Tournier, Mark Tournier, TerriAnn Hallstrom, Lance Hallstrom, Wayne Hallstrom, Lisa Hallstrom, Lori Hadikin (Hallstrom), Crystal Hallstrom and 13 great grandchildren.  The family would like to thank all the staff at the Gardens in Qualicum Beach, and the doctors and nurses at NRH who helped to make Mom’s last months and days safe and comfortable.

At Eyrtle’s request, there will be no service, but a family memorial will be held in Greenwood BC in September.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
