It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mickey Avis at N.R.G.H.

Born in Vancouver almost 98 years ago, Mickey lived most of her life in Parksville. She was a retired teacher who had taught in Vancouver, Duncan and mainly in District 69. She was one of the founding members of the De Cosmos Art Group and was well known for her beautiful paintings.

An avid gardener, Mickey loved nature, animals, sports, travelling and life in general. She was loved by all who knew her.

Predeceased by her husband Frank in 1995 as well as sisters, Wynne, Ollie & Trixie. She is survived by sons Rick (Libby) of Port Alberni, Peter (Joanne) of Nanoose Bay; her grandchildren Jonathan (Alicia), Mike (Kristin), Kristen (Peter), Chris (Diana) and Lynn (Dan); her precious great-grandson Liam; and her tubby cat Bingo.

A special thank you to June & Charlie Madden, Ian & Judy Williams, and Dave & Mary Bird who helped her in so many ways. We would like to thank the N.R.G.H. Emergency team along with the caring staff on the 5th floor including Susan who has adopted Bingo. Thanks also to Pauline at VIHA; Jen, and Rebecca from The Nurse Next Door; Nina, Terry, Dan & Tracy, members of her art group, along with her many friends and neighbours who had helped her to live such a long full life.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to the S.P.C.A. or a charity of your choice would be appreciated. You will be missed, Grandma Mickey, R.I.P. xo
