February 25, 1949 – November 18, 2021
In Loving Memory ~ Freddy passed away with family at his side. Beloved husband of Margie, father to Jennifer, Samantha, Peter and Nicholas, grandfather of twelve grandchildren and four great grandchildren, the little loves of his life.
Survived by his mother, Joyce, sister Wende Marocchi (Brent Crossley), brother Stephen (Karen), sister-in-law Cathy Dennis, brother-in-law Vic Waram (Kay), numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends; especially his dog, Charlie (Kipper).
Freddy joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1965. Later he did the boilermaker apprenticeship at the DND Dockyard and also earned Steel Fabricator and Welding Tickets. The first part of his career in steel construction was spent building ships for various operations on the Island. He also spent time working in the Beaufort Sea supervising crews on the drill ships.
Later in his career he transitioned into heavy equipment manufacture, repair and design first at Beban Logging in the Queen Charlottes. Freddy ended his career after many years at Leemar Manufacturing, where he retired as shop foreman.
Freddy was a man’s man. Never afraid of hard work and capable of doing almost anything, he was always happy to lend a helping hand. His children knew he was only a phone call away from being their hero on any given day. He had a large presence in the hockey community at many levels over the years as a coach, trainer and referee.
In recent years, he rarely missed a Clippers game if he could help it. His final project, restoring his ‘641⁄2 Mustang, brought a spark and a joy that we were blessed to experience with him one more time.
He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by all who knew him. A Celebration of Life will be held on Freddy’s birthday, February 25, 2022 @ 4 pm at the Bradley Centre in Coombs. Please come out and share your best stories of Fred.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Freddy’s memory to BC Cancer Foundation or to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
