BANKS, Frederick JamesWith great sadness we announce the passing of our father at the age of 94. A Loving husband, father, friend, mentor and gentleman. Predeceased by his wife Ida in 2001 and granddaughter Debbie in 1998. Survived by his son, Warren (Bev) and daughter Joan (Fred), grandchildren Jim, Robert (Janet), Donna (Phillip), Ken (Shelley) and eight great grandchildren and his sister Eddy. Born in Trobridge, Wiltshire, England, the family came to New Westminster, BC in 1921. Fred married Ida in 1927. They came to Parksville in 1928. In 1929 he built Fred Banks Garage (now Save On Gas), which he operated until 1952. He then became involved in the logging industry. Fred was always involved in the community. When the Pacific War started and A.R.P. fire fighting equipment arrived, he was Parksville’s first Fire Chief and the Garage the first Fire Hall. He was a corporal of a squad in the P.C.M.R. (militia) and a Parksville Village Commissioner. Fred was a resident of St. Joseph’s Hospital (Comox) Ocean View Extended Care.
