Chappell, Frederick James
Fred passed away peacefully March 7, 2008 Å6¶5at Nanaimo General Hospital.
Survived by his loving wife Maureen and her family: Garth (Kathy) Jickling; Graham Jickling; Kelly (Stu) Hilder and grandchildren.
Fred was born October 23, 1920 in Cadomin, Alta., and grew up in Wetaskiwin, Alberta.
He enlisted in The Canadian Scottish Regiment in Victoria, July 2, 1940 and served in action in the Mediterranian Theatre of Operations, Northwest Europe and United Kingdom as a Cryptographer, honourably discharged March 15, 1946.
In Vancouver he was a co-partner, merchandising in the Fred Asher store for several years then joined Hudson’s Bay Co. and worked there for 32 years. Taking early retirement he moved to Vancouver Island, building his home in Schooner Cove and later moved to Craig Bay, Parksville.
His loving family and many friends will miss his gentle presence in their lives. His great sense of humour, wonderful smile and positive attitude is a legacy we’ll never forget.
No service at his request. Fred will be remembered with much love at a private family gathering.
