It is with heavy hearts that we announce Fred's passing. He passed away peacefully with family by his side.

Fred was born in Wells, BC, the youngest son of Norm and Pearl Thompson of Barkerville, BC. After moving from Barkerville to Quesnel at the age of two, Fred spent a carefree childhood biking, playing baseball and curling with his friends. He met and married Gail in 1967 and they began life's adventures. After moving to Kitsilano, Fred did a short stint at SFU and eventually moved back to Quesnel, via Kamloops, to begin a career with Canada Post and to start a family -- his two daughters -- Dana and Kara, the lights of his life.

Ever looking for adventure, he accepted a supervisor position in Whitehorse, Yukon. The family spent a year exploring all things Yukon. Another Canada Post opening found him in Williams Lake where he continued working until retirement. Fred and Gail's passion for travelling, led them to purchase a Boler Trailer when the family was young, and eventually "Jake", their 23 foot motorhome in which they explored for 16 years.

Retirement brought Fred and Gail to Qualicum Beach on Vancouver Island to be closer to the girls and to escape the Cariboo winters. During this time, Fred spent the next 8 years participating and chairing hearings for the Employment and Assistance Appeal Tribunal, travelling up and down the island.

Fred is survived by his wife Gail, daughters Dana (Carl) and Kara, brothers Harold and Bob (Joy), sister Lil and extended families. He is also survived by his three grandchildren - Zoe, Alyssa and Dorian who were his pride and joy - remember the hockey games in the parking lot! You will forever be in our hearts "Papa". Fred will always be remembered for his sense of humour, his passion for travel planning and the "Canucks" ... and yes, they were winning Fred!

There will not be a service by Fred's request. A family gathering will be held in the spring to celebrate Fred's Life. Donations in his memory can be made to Oceanside Hospice Society - www.oceansidehospice.com.
